Community Resources
The Glyndon Volunteer Fire Department
Active since 1904, the Glyndon Volunteer Fire Department (GVFD) was founded within months of a fire that destroyed the town’s original train station. Today, the GVFD works hard to provide modern, effective fire protection for the residents of Glyndon and surrounding neighborhoods. The Ladies Auxiliary, organized in 1953, assists by raising funds for the work of the fire department. Visit the GVFD website or Facebook page for more information.
The Glyndon Community Association
The Glyndon Community Association (GCA) is a community organization whose purpose is “to promote and maintain a strong community spirit in Glyndon, to bring about improved conditions in all things that affect the community in general, and to promote other non-profit purposes.” In addition to monitoring and commenting on matters such as zoning and traffic/roads, the GCA also sponsors a number of annual community events. For information, visit GCA’s website.
The Glyndon Swim Club
A Glyndon landmark for over 90 years, the Glyndon Swim Club is a hub of summer fun in Glyndon. Please visit their website for information about membership, swim lessons, upcoming events, and more.
The Woman's Club of Glyndon
The Woman’s Club of Glyndon was established in 1898 by ladies “summering” in Glyndon who gathered on neighbor’s porches to read together. The Club purchased the original two-room schoolhouse on Butler Road as its clubhouse in 1932, after several local schools consolidated into one building in Reisterstown. Today, the Woman’s Club promotes literary and social activities as well as interest in local civic issues and national and world affairs. For information, visit The Woman’s Club’s website.
The Glyndon Post Office
The historic Glyndon Post Office occupies the old Glyndon train station at 2 Railroad Avenue. Residents using the 21071 zip code receive their mail at the post office. While home delivery of mail is available in Glyndon, most residents choose to collect their mail at the post office, where they can also catch up with neighbors and check the bulletin board for upcoming events. The Glyndon Post Office is a source of pride for the community and one of the many small-town charms of living in Glyndon.
The Emory Grove Hotel
Built in 1887, the Emory Grove Hotel is a stately Victorian structure that once housed attendees of summer camp meetings at the Emory Grove Methodist Camp Meeting Ground in Glyndon. The hotel is the only remaining one of four original hotels on the property and one of the few still remaining in the country. While the building no longer functions as a hotel, it is an important historic site that is still in use as a space for community gatherings and venue for weddings and other events.
